ONLY HUMAN
British artist David Shillinglaw joins Mogshade and ERITAGE for a limited collection that takes his unmistakable visual language beyond the canvas and onto products made to be worn, carried and played with.
There is a natural connection between the three. Shillinglaw’s work constantly plays with order and disorder, building worlds from lines, grids, symbols, words and spontaneous marks. Golf does much the same in its own way: mapped landscapes, boundaries, routes and numbers, all confronted by the unpredictability of the game itself. Mogshade has always been interested in that less controlled side of golf, while ERITAGE creates the space for different disciplines and audiences to meet.
The result is a small run of T-shirts, caps, socks, tee packs and headcovers, bringing Shillinglaw’s drawings and graphic vocabulary into the world of golf. Pieces that can exist on the course, in the city, or somewhere between the two.
Created as a limited release, the Only Human collection will be revealed in Lisbon during Golf, Curated, under ERITAGE's roof.
The campaign was directed and photographed by talented Ricky Tonizzo.
DAVID SHILLINGLAW
David Shillinglaw is a UK based artist, best known for his works exploring human nature, success and failure, and the language people use to describe their experiences.
His practice shifts between the street and studio using a variety of materials and mediums creating work that ranges from drawings and collages to large scale murals and installations.
David lives and works in Margate, UK.
All my work is about describing space: the internal space of my mind; the organs and systems under my skin; the physical spaces I inhabit, from rooms, to gardens and trains. This stretches out to the internet or cyber space, the space of a city, a country or continent—the planet as a whole. Perhaps the hardest to comprehend is ‘outer space’. I find it almost impossible to imagine its dark vastness. I find something compelling about trying to explore these ideas through drawing, painting and collage. Like a caveman scratching a constellation on a muddy wall, I construct maps to navigate impossible terrains.
